The Elgin Parks & Recreation Department is proud to announce the introduction of our Teen Council. This organization is designed for teens 14 years and up to come together and create event and activity ideas specifically for their peers. They will work as a team to flesh out ideas in to workable events, including budget, itinerary, advertising and supplies.
The Parks & Recreation Department also hosts special guests for the Teen Council from different disciplines to encourage the pursuit of new educational fields and introduce new ideas. We have hosted:
• Ashley Smith, owner of The Clever Tiger Art Gallery to discuss personality types and the importance of persistence.
• Delano Brown from the Austin Parks & Recreation Department to discuss running a Teen Council and how to appeal to peers
• Gena Carter, President of the Elgin Chamber of Commerce to discuss planning an effective event and advertising it
We are working on "Shark Tank Lite" where each student will create their own event idea, thinking critically about the logistics. They will present their idea to a panel of judges and their peers who will rank the events and offer feedback. We will work in teams to create more in depth event proposals all leading to a Teen Council hosted event.
Presentation Round 1 (April 23rd from 6-8PM)
Time: 5 minutes max
Content: Based on Event Submission Form
Evaluation: Panel of judges will provide feedback & Teen Council will rank presentations
By the end of the meeting we will announce the top handful of ideas and break in to even groups
