More than $100K awarded to 44 public libraries across Texas
AUSTIN, TX (April 21, 2016)

The Texas Book Festival announced the winners of its 2015-16 Texas Library Grants at the Texas Library Association conference in Houston today. Forty-four public libraries across Texas received grants totaling $100,130.

Out of the 44 public libraries awarded, the Elgin Public Library is a Texas Book Festival library grant recipient. The TBF’s Texas Library Grants support collection enhancement to help public libraries meet the needs of their communities.

“It is very rewarding to see how impactful each grant is, especially in libraries with little to no collections budgets,” says Lois Kim, the Texas Book Festival’s executive director. “Whether the library needs more large-print books, Spanish language materials for bilingual families, or young adult literature, Texas librarians, who are incredible champions for their communities, will now be able to add vital new books to their shelves. We are proud to be able to help libraries share new materials with their patrons.” - by media release

The Elgin Public Library received a check totaling $2,498.41. The money will be used to purchase: 2X2s, Bluebonnet Award, Lonestar, Maverick, and Tejas Star books from the Texas State Library Association collections for 2016, plus board books for prereaders.

Depot Museum

Elgin Depot Museum

The museum is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, from 2 - 5 pm. Admission is free.

Check the Website for updates to the featured exhibits at the museum. A new mini-exhibit has opened featuring mementos of the luxury train American Orient Express.  This certainly gives a new meaning to 'traveling in comfort'.  Compliments of Javier J. Garza, long time employee of the rail line.

Have you noticed, the museum's outdoor sign has been moved to make way for the new sidewalk.  The museum is working toward a new look for a sign that will be erected in the museum yard.  Many thanks to Amy Miller for her guidance through this experience.  The museum is welcoming more visitors all the time.  Come see for yourself and bring a friend to show off an excellent museum-wide exhibit about the history of Elgin.

Rotating Mini-exhibits add some sparkle about current holidays and events. The Museum also has an extensive photo collection and souvenirs for purchase. For inquiries call 512-285-2000. Read more or Follow us on Facebook
