Home for the Holidays in Elgin

Elgin is Home for Holiday by the Tracks!

Ring in the holidays with a downtown celebration that will fill you with the spirit of the season.  On Saturday, December 3rd, young and old can enjoy pictures with Santa, Holiday shopping, the Elgin Farmers’ Market, retail and restaurant specials. The Farmers' Market and Holiday Bazaar will be located inside at 30 North Main. You will be able to enjoy Holiday by the Tracks regardless of the weather on Saturday.The day promises to be great fun with something for everyone in our beautiful Historic Downtown!, New this year is the Hot Cocoa Sip and Stroll (see details below) The Elgin Farmers’ Market and Bazaar will have fresh produce and baked goods available, in addition to handmade arts and crafts, unique items and one of a kind creations by artists from the Central Texas area. Live music and entertainment throughout the day will spread more holiday cheer. A complete schedule can be found at

The Elgin Volunteer Fire Department sponsors the Lighted Christmas Parade at dusk through downtown and a Live Nativity produced by St. Peter’s Lutheran Church follows the parade in Veterans Memorial Park     Held at dusk the parade presents a magical lighted wonderland and Santa Claus waving from an antique fire engine through downtown Elgin.  The St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Live Nativity follows the parade at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Elgin on Depot Street.

Operation Santa  -  Donate new unwrapped toys and gifts for children in our community - look for the lighted trailer at the parade or drop off at the Police Department. Organized by Elgin fire department, Elgin Police department Blue Santa, and Elgin High School R.E.A.L. Club. 

The Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Board, City of Elgin Community Development Department and the Elgin Farmer’s Market organize Holiday by the Tracks as a community celebration of the holidays.

Elgin is home to two Christmas tree farms, both of which have gift shops, games for the kids, and beautiful scenery.  Elgin Christmas Tree Farm and Evergreen Christmas Tree Farm are locally owned and operated and are open throughout the fall and winter months.  Visit and  Down Home Ranch, located just east of Elgin, offers a holiday store and home grown poinsettias. Visit 
Celebrate the holidays in Elgin and remember when you Shop Elgin First, you are supporting the businesses and organizations that make Elgin a great place to live!

Holiday Concert in the Park: Friday, December 2, 6:30 pm, Veterans' Memorial Park, Elgin ISD Elementary Schools join together to share the sounds of Christmas from around the world with our community.  

Holiday by the Tracks: Saturday, December 3, 9 am - 5 pm, Veterans' Memorial Park, Elgin is Home for Holiday by the Tracks! Holiday Bazaar, Pictures with Santa, Get your souvenir Christmas mug and sample hot cocoa at participating businesses from 2-5 pm throughout downtown See all the activities and specials on the Flyer.
Come early and enjoy Project Celebration Breakfast with Santa starting at 8am at the Elgin Public Library

EVFD Lighted Christmas Parade: Saturday, December 3. The parade starts at dusk at Elgin Memorial Park and proceeds down Main Street to Austin Street. Bring a new unwrapped toy for the toy drive. Flyer & Registration Form

Pictures with Santa

Hot Cocoa Sip and Stroll Saturday December 3
As part of Holiday by the Tracks events there will be a new promotion this year - The Hot Cocoa Sip and Stroll event. This fun and delicious event will be from 2pm-5pm in Historic Downtown. Participating Elgin Businesses will pass out free hot cocoa samples to anyone that has purchased a holiday mug from the Chamber of Commerce. These festive red and green holiday mugs will be on sale for $10 and allow participants to sample hot cocoa from participating “Chocolatiers”! 
Enjoy shopping and holiday sights and sounds as you discover unique shops, artwork, gifts and cuisine during Holiday by the Tracks and the Hot Cocoa Sip n Stroll.

Families who would like assistance with Christmas gifts for their children may sign up for the Blue Santa program. The program is for children ages 10 and under, Sign up is: November 20th - December 9th at the Elgin Police Department, 202 Depot Street. 
Residents inside city limits are given first priority. Proof of residency required. Families outside city limits will receive gifts based on availability.

Travis County is developing a locally focused transportation plan to identify transportation needs and solutions, incorporate future options and choices, and prioritize improvements in areas outside of Austin city limits. This Plan will define priorities through the year 2045 with an emphasis on what we need today and what we will need in the future.

Simply prepare an extra row, sow a few more seeds or plant an extra container of cherry tomatoes. The museum is open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, from 2 - 5 pm. Admission is free.

Bulk Trash Pickup
Bulk trash pickup is every other Tuesday. Arrangements must be made in writing, in advance, to be placed on the pickup route by emailing the
 Utility Billing Department or complete and submit a Bulk Trash Pick Up Request. Deadline for scheduling a bulk pick up is 5:00 PM the Friday before the next pick up date.Items must be set out by the Monday before at 5 PM and if items are not all serviced, they have to be brought in the day after by 7 AM.  This is a free service included in the price that City of Elgin residential customers pay for water, wastewater, recycling and garbage service. Trash & Recycling Procedures.

Upcoming Bulk Dates can be viewed on the City Services Calendar.

Tires, Whole Trees, Construction Debris, and/or Piles over 3 cubic yards* Do NOT Qualify for bulk pick up. These items must be disposed of by the resident. 
*3 cubic yards is roughly a load that would fit in a standard pickup truck bed.

Adopt A Spot

The Adopt a Spot program is sponsored by the City of Elgin to beautify our community.  The program offers two opportunities for you and your neighbors to play an ongoing role in maintaining an area that needs a little extra attention or beautification – Adopt A Spot Litter Control and Adopt a Spot Beautification. Read more and find out how you can participate!

Available spots: Any spot on public property can be considered for adoption. Available spots are listed on the Adoption forms or you can choose a spot. Please call 512-229-3227 for information and any questions you may have regarding the Adopt A Spot programs.
Get a Purple Wildcat Flag from Elgin Main Street. 
The full sized flags are great to hang any time, or to put out for events like Western Days, Homecoming and more.  Flags may be purchased for $20 at Elgin City Hall, 310 North Main Street or Dorothy’s Jewelry and Gifts, 104 Depot Street. 

Elgin has been a Main Street City since 1990. Purchase of these items supports this program which in turn supports downtown revitalization and preservation of our Historic Downtown District.

The CARTS buses pick up riders downtown on Depot Street & Ave C and at the Hwy 95 North Park & Ride at Elgin Memorial Park. CARTS provides many different transportation options for rural communities.
