Air Quality Awareness!

Air Quality Awareness Week May 1-5, 2017
Air pollution can make asthma symptoms worse and trigger asthma attacks.
Ground-level ozone and fine particulate matter in particular can cause problems for people with asthma. About 1 out of every 13 residents of the Austin-Round Rock metro area have asthma (approximately 155,000 people)

Steps you can take to protect yourself or your family from asthma attacks on high air pollution days

  • Plan activities when and where pollution levels are lower (mornings are typically better than afternoons during the summer)
  • Change your activity level (go for a walk rather than a jog, or take a shorter jog)
  • If you get asthma symptoms on a high air pollution day, stop your activity
  • Keep quick-relief medication on hand when you are active outdoors
  • Stay up-to-date on local air quality – check the air quality forecast and download the AirNow app
  • Notice any asthma symptoms the day after a high pollution day

Learn how air quality affects your life during Air Quality Awareness Week.
