CAPCOG launches Text to 9-1-1 region wide

“Call if You Can, Text if You Can’t.”

The Capital Area Council of Governments has deployed Text to 9-1-1 service region wide after successfully testing that the region’s 31 public safety answering points (PSAPs), or 9-1-1 call centers, can reliably receive and respond to SMS text messages. The service is now activated on the four major cellphone service providers —Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility, Sprint, and T-Mobile — in Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson counties. A full Q&A about text to 9-1-1 is available at capcog.org/text911

CARTS Introduces new buses to Rural Transit Fleet

The Texas Department of Transportation was awarded more than $20 .8 million in federal TIGER* grants to improve transportation services for rural populations in October of 2015. The funding will help replace 325 vehicles located throughout the state that are used to transport rural residents.

The Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) was one of the rural transit recipients     selected to receive funds. This award has helped CARTS supplement our rural transit fleet with 20 new buses. These additions to our fleet will increase the reliability and safety of the services we provide to our rural customers. Over the next few weeks CARTS will be introducing these 20 new 22ft buses to our Country Bus fleet. We will be highlighting their arrival in the various communities.

CARTS is a rural and small urban transit district serving the non-urbanized areas of Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee and Travis counties, and the City of San Marcos/Martindale urbanized district. CARTS provides community-based regional   transportation throughout its District.
For information about CARTS and its services visit www.RideCARTS.com/.

Internet Purchase Exchange Location

The Elgin Police Department is pleased to announce an "Internet Purchase Exchange Location" or "MeetUp Spot" in partnership with OfferUp located in front of the Police Department. The "MeetUp Spot" program will eliminate the need for two strangers to exchange items at a home or residence. Having a designated public space to conduct a transaction can help deter criminal intent and activity. #MeetUpSpots.Read more
