Elgin Depot Museum - Hogeye Happenings

The Elgin Historical Assn. is excited to announce that a special traveling exhibit called, "Quanah & Cynthia Ann Parker: A Pictorial Exhibit of Their Story," will open as part of the coming Hogeye Festival on Saturday, October 24.  It consists of over 40 rarely seen photos as they make their way around Texas, initiated by the Texas Heritage Trails program.  In 1836 Cynthia Ann was taken by a Comanche raiding party, and over years, she became wife to a Comanche Chief and mother to their children, including Quanah. Cynthia Ann was taken back by Texas Rangers. Quanah became a very important Comanche leader. Many people know the basic story, and this show will demonstrate the tragedy of these two courageous individuals.  The exhibit will remain in Elgin until the end of the year.

In addition to the Quanah Parker exhibit opening, the Depot Museum will also be exhibiting a model layout of the area around Elgin Depot produced by the SANTRAK Model Railroad Association. Raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win this setup along with a working train. The winning ticket will be drawn on December 12th you do not need to be present to win.

The Depot Museum we will have a small exhibit of Indian artifacts collected in the Elgin area and some from New Mexico. Cristin Embree, an EHA member as well as a member of the Mary Christian Burleson Foundation board, will have a photo booth outside where people can have their photographs taken by a professional photographer. She will also have the Indian artifacts and will show and explain them to visitors.
