THE DINING CAR
A Collection of Railroad History

from the collections of Roy Ekstrum of Victoria. He's a member of the Austin Steam Train Assn. and has been collecting Southern Pacific Railroad dining car items for almost 20 years. Only part of his collection will be on display, but it will include over 100 pieces of SP's Prairie Mountain Wildflowers dining car china. Also, over 100 pieces of silver plate flatware and holloware, menus, and other dining car items will be displayed with place settings and individually. Colorful Railroad advertising paperwork on display was used to promote Texas and Louisiana both in tourism and agriculture. Another display will be about Southern Pacific's premier passenger train, the "Sunbeam" that ran between Houston and Dallas. Many pieces in these displays are very rare and hard to find, so if you're interested in seeing what travel was like during the 'golden age', be sure and check out this exhibit.
