ELGIN
HISTORIC MARKER PROGRAM

The City of Elgin Offers the Historic Marker Program to recognize local landmarks, encourage historic preservation and to increase community awareness of our Heritage.
The Elgin Historic Review Board and the Elgin Historical Association worked together to develop the program which is modeled after the maker program with the Texas Historical Commission. Marker applications are provided for structures , cemeteries, churches or synagogues, and events.
Historic Markers are purchased by the applicants for all approved Historic Landmark Applications.
Below you will find the tools for submitting a request for a marker. Application forms, marker research guides for each area as well as a guide for submitting the application request.
The process allows for applications to be submitted at any time. Applications received by January 15 annually will be considered for an award in that year.
Applications will be reviewed by the historical marker committee composed of representatives from the Elgin Historical Association and the Historic Review Board. This committee will make recommendations to the Historic Review Board or Planning and Zoning Commission and recommendation from there to City Council.
In addition to the Historical Marker applicants
may also purchase a Story Marker.
