  1. Empowering Caregivers of Older Adults

    This series of six classes is designed to empower family caregivers of older adults to take better care of themselves. The tools learned from Powerful Tools for Caregivers benefit caregivers by developing a wealth of self-care strategies to better handle the unique challenges faced by family caregivers. The evidence-based curriculum of Powerful Tools Caregivers was developed by Dr. Kate Lorig and her colleagues at Stanford University and has benefited more than 80,000 caregivers nation-wide.
    You will learn:
    -Identify and reduce personal stress
    -Communicate feelings, needs, and concerns
    -Take care of you.
    -Communicate more effectively during challenging situations


    Who Should Attend?
    Anyone:
    -Caring for a loved one.
    -Looking for caregiving resources and needing caregiving guidance.
    -Wanting to master caregiving decisions and learn from emotions.

  2. Lunch Break Yoga

    February 22, 2019, 12:00 PM - 12:45 PM @ ERC - Studio / Activity Room

    This shorter yoga practice will allow you to feel the benefits of a full yoga class, but only take 45 minutes so you can fit it in during your lunch hour. A refreshing break from your busy work day, this class will help reduce stress, ease achy joints, stretch and lengthen tight muscles, and energize you for the rest of the day. Restore balance to your work week with lunch break yoga! Sarah started practicing yoga in 2002, and obtained her Hatha 200 hour teacher certification in 2009. After continuing her studies and maintaining a home yoga practice, Sarah developed a yoga course for middle school students. In 2015, she completed training in prenatal and postnatal yoga and currently she teaches both of these in Elgin, Texas. Sarah's classes focus on intuitive movement and introspection, as well as the deepening connection between the mind and body. Sarah has also studied with Gary Kraftsow and utilizes yoga for stress relief and pain management.

    WHAT WE WILL DO: - Come up with new ideas for Parks & Rec events and activities that cater specifically to teens - Work as a team to turn ideas in to workable events including: budget, itinerary, scheduling and supplies WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: - Motivated, responsible teens/young adults who are interested in helping Parks & Rec create content - Must be organized and creative - Must be able to meet for 2 hours twice a month and more often as events approach WHATS EXPECTED: - Full participation (ideas, advertising, etc) - Good attendance at events and meets - Good conduct outside of Parks & Rec events/meetings and at them WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU: - Community service hours - Reference letters (if applicable) - Community involvement and the ability to make a difference - Experience planning events and working with budgets - Experience working with a government department WHO'S ELIGIBLE: - High School or home school students aged 14-18 TO APPLY EMAIL PARKS@CI.EL
