News and Events Celebrating 20 years as a Texas Main Street City The Union Depot Museum in historic downtown Elgin opens its newest exhibit Saturday August 28, Main Street Elgin. The exhibit will share the story of Main Street Elgin and the development of events such as the Hogeye Festival. Museum hours are Tuesday through Sunday 2 to 5. Group tours may be arranged by calling 285-2000.

Austin Community CollegeElgin will have the opportunity to vote on joining the ACC district and providing higher education in Elgin for in-district rates. The local campus could open for business by the Fall of 2013 and would be located at County Line Road and Hwy. 290 east of Doc’s Country Store. ACC offers classes in a host of disciplines that transfer to Texas public universities. ACC is the largest feeder school to UT Austin and Texas State University. ACC has 182 Workforce Education Degrees and Certificates; and, it has 75 certificates in a variety of fields that can be completed in one year or less. ACC ranks among the Top Ten (out of 50) of Texas’ community college districts in terms of dollar value received by district residents. The ACC tuition rate for in-district residents is $42 per credit hour. The local property tax assessment would be .0946 per $100 valuation (.09 for maintenance and operations and .0046 to retire facilities bonds). ACC has a seniors/disabled tax exemption. Exhibit Opens at the Depot Museum The Elgin Historical Association invites everyone to see the latest exhibit of photographs taken by the citizens of Elgin beginning September 9, 2009 at the Depot Museum The exhibit features sections devoted to work, school, the land, faith, home and town scenes and buildings. They vary in scale from views of Elgin Main Street taken from the EISD bucket truck to micro-level photos of light bulbs and drinking fountains at school. 43 photographers contributed pictures. Admission to the museum is free. Opening hours are 2-5 pm every day except Monday. Located at Depot Square and Main Street in Historic Downtown Elgin.
Safe Trick Or Treat Save the date! The annual Safe Trick or Treat in Veterans Park and historic Downtown Elgin will be Sunday October 31 from 6 to 8. Games, treats, a haunted tent, costume contest and more! Volunteers needed for this fun event call 281-5724 ext. 27 or email pcarter@ci.elgin.tx.us
Holiday By Tracks Saturday December 4, 2010 from 10am to 8pm at Veterans’ Memorial Park. Kick off the holiday season with pictures with Santa, a holiday bazaar, live music, the VFD Lighted Holiday Parade and the St Peters Lutheran Church live Nativity. A new event feature this year is an auction of decorated Christmas trees after the parade to benefit local non-profit organizations. The Elgin Main Street Board is celebrating 20 years as a Texas Main Street City. Celebrations include purple and white flags emblazoned with the wildcat mascot and the words Elgin, Texas. These full size flags can be flown at anytime at your home or business but are especially fun to have during Western Days, community events, and youth sport seasons.
