July 4th Weekend Activities and Celebrations!! Fireworks in Elgin Elgin’s 2nd Annual July 4th Celebration sponsored by Southside Market & Barbeque and Frontier Bank of Texas. Sunday July 4th 6:30pm – 10:00pm on Southside’s property at the corner of Hwy 290 E. and Hwy 95 North. The celebration will include a military display as presented by our own TEXAS ARMY NATIONAL GUARD, food, live music performed by Liquid Bluz, an appearance by the Buffalo Soldiers, A Troop, 9th Cavalry (circa 1866) and of course, an awe inspiring patriotic fireworks display at sundown. The free children’s activities will include face painters, magicians, moonwalks and more. Gather your friends, family and lawn chairs, A free shuttle will be provided at Hwy. 95 North Park & Ride! Movies at the library Family Movie Night - 6PM The Movie Fresh Produced and directed by Ana Sofia Jones in 2009 the movie Fresh will be shown in Elgin on Thursday, July 15 at the Elgin Public Library at 7:00pm. Local businesses and organizations have joined together to bring this showing to Elgin and host a panel discussion. Movie goers are encouraged to make a free will donation which will benefit the Elgin Community Cupboard. FRESH celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who support our food system. The greater Elgin area is home to a variety of farming. Exhibit Opens at the Depot Museum The Elgin Historical Association invites everyone to see the latest exhibit of photographs taken by the citizens of Elgin beginning September 9, 2009 at the Depot Museum The exhibit features sections devoted to work, school, the land, faith, home and town scenes and buildings. They vary in scale from views of Elgin Main Street taken from the EISD bucket truck to micro-level photos of light bulbs and drinking fountains at school. 43 photographers contributed pictures. Admission to the museum is free. Opening hours are 2-5 pm every day except Monday. Located at Depot Square and Main Street in Historic Downtown Elgin. | ||||||||||

The Elgin Main Street Board is celebrating 20 years as a Texas Main Street City. Celebrations include purple and white flags emblazoned with the wildcat mascot and the words Elgin, Texas. These full size flags can be flown at anytime at your home or business but are especially fun to have during Western Days, community events, and youth sport seasons. Flags may be purchased for $25 at Elgin City Hall 310 North Main Street or Dorothy’s Jewelry and Gifts 104 Depot Street.
