Safe Routes to School
Construction of sidewalks is almost complete on FM 1100 or Avenue C from Elgin Middle School to County Line Road.  This joint project with the Texas Department of Transportation is funded by a Safe Routes to School grant.  Construction of sidewalks on County Line Road will be completed by Bear Creek construction before school begins in August, the same contractor who did FM 1100, and is funded by a separate Safe Routes to School grant.  Please remember to slow down for school zones, put away your cell phones, and watch for children throughout our community.

Centers Grant
The City of Elgin received a grant from the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and the Texas Department of Transportation to rebuild 2nd street from Avenue B to 11th Street, to build a two mile multipurpose path from Veterans Memorial Park to Elgin Memorial Park following Avenue B, 2nd Street, 11th Street and Main Street, and build two transit stops.  Engineering services for this project were awarded to TRC Engineering.  The project is in final phases of environmental and design review with TXDOT.  It will be going out for bid later this spring, and is slated to be awarded in summer 2013.
