[ARCHIVED] City of Elgin Shares Retrospectives in Anticipation of Sesquicentennial

The City of Elgin will celebrate its Sesquicentennial in 2022. As we get ready to commemorate, educate, and celebrate, we look forward to sharing retrospectives about the community.

In November 1963, Chief James Mumford was tragically killed in the line of duty. A granite memorial,  dedicated in 2001, was placed in front of the police station in his honor. You can read more about that sad day for Elgin here:

Special thanks to Sydna Arbuckle, native Elginite and local historian for sharing these images. The Depot Museum, operated by the Elgin Historical Association, manages the photography
collection and archives. In addition, several books on Elgin area history, Elgin, and stories from Elgin people are available at the Depot Museum, 14 Depot Square in downtown Elgin.
