Tuesday July 3rd Chalk It UP Sidewalk chalk art in Veterans Memorial Park. DJ and FREE snow cones while supplies last! Bring your friends and family - draw on your own or as a team - enjoy the evening downtown and help decorate the park to celebrate the 4th of July!  Flyer here

4th of July Parade & Program- Elgin Community Choir will share a lineup of patriotic songs during the program, military servicemen and women and veterans will be recognized. Veteran's Memorial Park 109 Depot Street. Program begins immediately following the parade.

A reminder that the City of Elgin explicitly prohibits the sale or use of any fireworks withthin the City limits. Per the City’s ordinance. Additional information available here.

Film Friendly Community Workshops

New Republic Studios will host multiple workshops for residents of Bastrop, Elgin, and Smithville. On four different dates in July, industry professionals will take part in an educational panel and forum to speak with residents on how to feature personal property in movie productions or TV programs. This will include homes, businesses, cars, boats, and any other possessions that could potentially be rented or used for production.

Start Composting This Summer

Summer is here, It's a great time to get your compost pile started. It takes three to four months for organic ingredients to break down and form compost. 


Many of the items typically go in the trash, like food scraps, paper products, and leaves can be composted. Composting benefits the environment by helping reduce landfill waste and conserve water. Learn more about the benefits of composting here

Swim lessons 
Swim lessons are provided by the Elgin City Pool. Each session will consist of 4 lessons over the span of 2 weeks on Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays from 6:45pm - 7:30pm. Cost per session is $75 per child. If for some reason the lesson is cancelled due to weather, the make up class will be that following Saturday morning.

  • Session 1 - June 4th - June 14th
  • Session 2 - June 18th - June 28th
  • Session 3 - July 16th - July 26th
  • Session 4 - July 30th - August 2nd

Join the Park Dept. for a fun day of hiking & swimming at Perndenales State Park ! You need to pack your own lunch and drink for the day, bring your own towel, sunscreen and bug spray. Must preregister at website

Thursday, July 12- Sip, Shop & Stroll
5-8pm in Historic Downtown Elgin

Bulk trash pickup is once per quarter and is serviced on your scheduled trash day.  Items may be placed at the curb two days before, no earlier than 5 PM.  Any items that are not serviced, must be removed no later than 7 AM the day after collection.  Click here for the   Trash & Recycling Procedures
