The City of Elgin is accepting candidate applications from residents interested in serving on one of the many Boards, Committees or Commissions. It is a great way to serve the community and become a part of its future.
 
You will assist the City Council and contribute directly to the quality of life enjoyed by residents now, and in the future.
 
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a qualified voter of the City of Elgin.

Celebrate Shop Small Saturday on November 24 and join the search for Priscilla the pig mascot for the Elgin Hogeye Festival at participating businesses on Saturday, November 24.

Hot Cocoa Stroll and Lighted Parade


Holiday by the Tracks & Hot Cocoa Stroll
Select a limited edition holiday souvenir mug and sample a variety of Hot Cocoa from downtown businesses and vote for your favorite during the Hot Cocoa Stroll!  Holiday by the Tracks includes visits with Santa, a day of shopping at the local businesses in Historic Downtown Elgin, the VFD Lighted Christmas Parade starts at dusk and is followed by a live nativity by St. Peters Lutheran Church. Holiday by the Tracks is Sponsored by the Elgin Main Street Board, City of Elgin and the Elgin Chamber of Commerce. Elgin is a Texas Main Street City, since 1990

EVFD Lighted Christmas Parade

This event takes place the 1st Saturday of December at dusk. Sponsored by the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department, this annual parade is a favorite of the locals as well as the many visitors it attracts with the creativity and diversity of the floats. It’s time to dance! Join us for our first ever Senior Dance, including live music and a talent show. We already have four talented acts signed up to perform, so don’t it! This event is sure to be fun for the whole community: 60 & up are FREE and everyone under 60 is just $5. Please register online if you’d like to participate.

Memorial Park


Come out to Memorial Park for an evening around the (mini) bonfire making delicious s’mores and enjoying the company of our community. We encourage everyone to bring a blanket or lawn chairs, flashlights and a picnic so we can make some s’mores, stargaze and chat with our neighbors. This is a FREE event, but to ensure we have plenty of supplies please register online here and click on “Family/Kids”.

Come decorate some festive hand turkeys, turkey centerpieces and turkey headbands at the Fleming Center! We will provide all the supplies you need so all you have to do is come and enjoy!  This is a free event, but space for this event is limited so please register online here and click on “Family/Kids”.

Basketball League at the Rec

Elgin Recreation Center Gymnasium

Starting on December 6th, the Elgin Parks and Rec department will be hosting a Basketball League through January 31st. All you need is 5 players to make a team, or sign up individually and we’ll find a team for you! Fees are $50 for a 5 player team for the season or $10 for an individual for the season, that means you only have to pay once for months of play! You can register

Blue Santa

Blue Santa

The Elgin Police Department is partnering with individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community to provide families in need with toys to help make their children’s Christmas season brighter. Registration will begin October 29th and will end December 5th. Donations for new toys and cash will be accepted through December 7th. (Families must register in person at the Elgin Police Department)
 
There are two ways to donate to Blue Santa of Elgin. You can donate new, unwrapped gifts for male and female ages of infant to age 13. Or you can donate financially so we may purchase new gifts to give to those who need them most in our community. Toys must be new, not used; they must not contain liquid or powder such as glitter; no toy weapons; no food; and no glass. Gifts and cash donations may be dropped off at the Elgin Police Department any time of the day.

This holiday season, consider a handcrafted gift.  Saturday December 15 enjoy a showcase of unique handcrafted items from local artists in the Elgin area.  Studio 621 will be open with several artists sharing their creations, 28 N will be open hosting local artists and Earthen Metals will be open with metal smith demonstrations, and guest artists.  Downtown businesses will be featuring locally crafted and handcrafted items ranging from treenware to marshmallows!

City Offices closure for Holidays


City offices will be closed on the following dates:

BULK TRASH



Bulk trash pickup is once per quarter and is serviced on your scheduled trash day. The next bulk trash pick up will be the week of December 10th-14th. Items may be placed at the curb two days before, no earlier than 5PM. Any items that are not serviced, must be removed  be  removed no later than 7 AM the day after collection.
